End in sight for Roma Street chaos as new bus platforms set to open

Roma Street station

The new Roma Street bus platforms are expected to open to the public from late May.

At the end of May, the brand new Roma Street bus platforms are expected to open to the public, sources tell us. This will mark the beginning of the end for years of makeshift platforms, temporary walkways and confusing layouts, put in place to facilitate construction of the new Roma Street Station.

The Brisbane Transit Centre was demolished in 2020 to make way for a brand new underground station as part of Cross River Rail. In the coming weeks, works are expected to wrap up on the new bus platforms ahead of a late May to early June opening window.

This aligns with reporting from SEQTA as early as 2025.

For passengers, the new platforms are expected to provide a more consistent and accessible layout, replacing the awkward walk where you exit the train station to change platforms.

While neither Queensland Rail nor Translink have formally confirmed an opening date, the upcoming launch represents a major milestone in the transformation of Roma Street and the broader rail network, with long-term benefits tied to Cross River Rail.
